*Alliteration
Repetition of consonant sound at the beginning of words
*Assonance
Repetition of vowel sounds within non-rhyming words.
*Ballad
Poem that tells a story and is meant to be sung or recited
*Figurative Language
Language that communicates ideas beyond the ordinary literal meanings of words
*Haiku
A major form of japanese verse, written in 17 syllables divided into 3 lines of 5,7, and 5 syllables, and employing highly evocative allusions and comparisons, often on the subject of nature or one of the seasons 
*Lyric Poem
Short poem in which a single speaker expresses personal thoughts and feelings
*Ode
Lyric poem typically of elaborate or irregular metrical form and expressive of exalted or enthusiastic emotion
*Rhythm
Refers to the pattern of flow of sound created by the arrangement of stresses and unstressed syllables in a line of poetry
*Analogy 
Point-By-Point comparison between two things that is alike in some respects 
*Consonance
Simultaneous combination of tones conventionally accepted as being in a state of response  

*Blank Verse
Unrhymed poetry written in iambic pentameter
*Free Verse
Does not contain a regular patter of the rhyme and meter
*Imagery
Consists of descriptive words and phrases that recreate sensory experiences for the reader
*Narrative
PoemTells a story
*Rhyme
Occurrence of a similar of identical sound at the ends of two or more words
*Shakespearean Sonnet
Consists of 3 quatrains, or 4 line units, and a final couplet
*Petrarchan Sonnet
A sonnet form popularized by Petrarach, consisting of octave with the rhyme scheme.
